Mastering the Dark Web: Tor, Onion Circuits & Threat Intelligence
RCCE students will learn how the dark web operates beneath the surface web, how the Tor network anonymizes traffic through layered onion routing, and how threat actors exploit this hidden infrastructure to conduct cybercrime beyond conventional law enforcement reach. RCCE students will learn to distinguish between the surface web, deep web, and dark web, understand how .onion addresses are cryptographically derived from public key hashes, how Tor circuits are constructed through entry, middle, and exit nodes, and how rendezvous points enable hidden service communication without exposing server identity. The course covers how hackers leverage dark web marketplaces for ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS), zero-day exploit trading, credential stuffing databases, DDoS-for-hire, and phishing kits alongside attacker OPSEC techniques such as Tor-over-VPN stacking and cryptocurrency anonymization. RCCE students will learn to conduct defensive dark web reconnaissance, monitor for leaked organizational credentials and data, identify threat actor TTPs originating from dark web forums, and apply threat intelligence findings to strengthen organizational defenses. This comprehensive course delivers practical knowledge applicable to real-world cybersecurity operations. Starting from foundational concepts, RCCE students will learn through a combination of concept explanation, practical demonstration, and hands-on exercises.
